Issues and policies
Bouygues implements a sustainable development policy as an integrated part of its strategy. The Group faces a twin challenge: not only to make progress on all the Groupwide issues, but also to advance and innovate on themes specific to each business area.
Construction
Sustainable construction, a factor of differentiation and growth for Bouygues Construction and Bouygues Immobilier, is a key marketing element for new buildings and the renovation of existing buildings. Colas devotes a substantial proportion of its R&D to making increasingly environment-friendly products.Telecoms-Media
The Group's telecoms and media subsidiaries are also taking action to address the issues specific to their particular businesses. For example, Bouygues Telecom has set up a system for recycling mobile phone handsets, while TF1 has obtained the Afnor Diversity label. -
Carbon strategy
The objectives of Bouygues are to promote low-carbon offerings to customers, raising awareness on cutting CO2 and on the savings delivered by these solutions. The Group draws on its innovative projects to reduce its carbon footprint and make its activities less energy dependent by introducing practical initiatives (vehicle fleet, buildings, IT equipment).

Responsible purchasing
The Bouygues group's responsible purchasing policy aims to encourage the referencing of products and services that are more eco-friendly, socially responsible and ethically sourced, while developing even-handed relations with suppliers. Performance assessments of the group’s suppliers according to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) criteria were initiated at the start of 2009. More than 500 suppliers have already been assessed by EcoVadis, an independent third party. Supplier CSR performance assessments cover 21 criteria, tailored to the issues and risks involved in the purchase category, the country in question and international standards (Global Compact, ISO 26000 and GRI).

Sustainable construction
Sustainable construction is the operational aspect of the Group’s sustainable development policy. Drawing on a number of R&D programmes, Bouygues’ building and civil works subsidiaries develop innovative solutions to enhance energy efficiency and integrate the environmental component to every stage of a project. They carry out BBC low-energy buildings and Bepos positive-energy buildings. Bouygues Immobilier has designed its own positive-energy concept called Green Office®.
Refurbishment offers for residential and commercial property have also been developed. As such, the renovation of Challenger, the headquarters of Bouygues Construction, aims to reduce energy consumption ten-fold.
